Celtics continue road trip against slumping Lakers

This is the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs. On January 31st, superstar Kobe Bryant finished with 43 points to lead the Lakers to a 111-98 win over Boston at TD Banknorth Garden.

The Lakers have won two in a row in the series. Boston has lost five of seven and seven of its last 10 at the Lakers.

All-Star Game MVP Kobe Bryant had 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists but shot just 8-of-22 from the floor for the reeling Lakers, who dropped their sixth straight contest. Lakers coach Phil Jackson suffered six straight losses for the first time in his 16 seasons as an NBA head coach.

Maurice Evans tallied 23 points in the loss for the Lakers, while Smush Parker had 18 points and eight assists for LA.

The Lakers are 19-9 as the host this season. After tonight's contest, they will play six of their next seven games on the road. LA will visit Golden State, Utah, Phoenix, Minnesota, Milwaukee and Philadelphia during the stretch, while its home game is against Sacramento on March 2nd at the Staples Center.

Boston enters tonight's game having lost two in a row and 20 of its last 21 games overall. On Wednesday, Amare Stoudemire scored 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Phoenix Suns outlasted the Celtics, 118-108, at US Airways Center.

Paul Pierce scored 24 points, Al Jefferson recorded 23 points and 17 boards and Ryan Gomes ended with 21 points in the loss to Phoenix for the Celtics, who will visit Utah on Saturday and Houston on Monday.

On the injury front for Boston, guard Sebastian Telfair (right elbow) is probable for tonight's game. Telfair is averaging 7.4 points and 3.2 assists this season.

The Celtics are 8-19 on the road this season. They have dropped 10 in a row on the road. Boston's last victory as the visitor was on January 5th against Memphis at the FedExForum.
