06/25/2010 - South Bend, IN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Emily Tubert and Lisa McCloskey both won their semifinal matches on Friday to set up the 36-hole final of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
The first 18 of the championship match between the two tees off at 7:30 a.m. (et) Saturday.
Tubert had the much tougher road to the final. Both her quarterfinal and semifinal matches went one extra hole on Friday at the Warren Golf Club at Notre Dame.
In Friday morning's quarterfinals, Tubert parred the first extra hole to defeat Victoria Sungmin Park, 1-up. In the semifinals, Tubert never trailed against Sara Grantham, but built a 1-up lead with a par at the 17th. Tubert bogeyed 18 to force the extra hole.
It was there where Tubert made par and moved on to the final in only her second national championship. She played in the U.S. Girls' Junior four years ago.
McCloskey birdied the 18th hole Friday morning to defeat Brianna Do, 1-up. She had an easier time in the semifinals against Ellen Mueller. McCloskey lost two, but won five and six and never looked back. McCloskey closed out the 3 & 2 win when both parred 16.
McCloskey has never appeared in a final at a USGA championship, but reached the quarterfinals of the 2008 U.S. Girls' Junior and was medalist in stroke play.
