04/21/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Barry Zito tries to build upon his first National League win when the San Francisco Giants continue their three-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks this afternoon at AT&T Park.
After getting banged around a bit in his first two starts, Zito bounced back with his first win as a member of the Giants Monday against Colorado. He scattered three hits over six scoreless innings to improve to 1-2 while lowering his earned run average to a still-lofty 5.29.
Zito's problems at the start should come as no surprise, since he is just 12-17 with a 5.06 ERA lifetime in April over 36 starts through the season's first month.
The 29-year-old left-hander has faced the Diamondbacks just twice in his career and is 1-1 with a 1.23 ERA against them.
Arizona will counter with right-hander Edgar Gonzalez, who is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA so far in 2007. Gonzalez was tagged with his first loss of the season on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he gave up five runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Gonzalez is 2-1 in his young career against the Giants with an 11.00 ERA in three games, two of which have been starts.
In the opener of this set on Friday, Russ Ortiz came back to haunt his old club, as the former Arizona righty tossed seven strong innings to lead San Francisco to a 4-2 win.
Barry Bonds went 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Bengie Molina knocked in a pair of runs for the Giants, who have won three in a row and five of six.
Ortiz (2-1) scattered eight hits and two runs for his second straight win.
Things got testy in the ninth, however, as Giants closer Armando Benitez walked the bases loaded with one out. Benitez, though, got Stephen Drew to hit into a fielder's choice and got Orlando Hudson to ground out for his third save of the season.
Hudson finished 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have lost two in a row and four of their last five.
Arizona starter Doug Davis (1-2) was tagged for seven hits and four runs -- two earned -- in six innings of work.
San Francisco's Omar Vizquel singled in the seventh inning to reach 2,480 hits for his career. That broke a tie with Cal Ripken Jr. for second-place on the all-time list for shortstops since 1957.
The Giants won 11 of 19 against the Diamondbacks last year and recorded a 6-3 mark at home in the series. San Francisco is 37-20 versus Arizona since the start of the 2004 campaign.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds
With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season. What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season. Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all. Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13). Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two. Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury. Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven. Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury. Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
