02/13/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Anaheim Ducks leave behind a franchise-record home winning streak in search of a fifth consecutive victory over the hosting Calgary Flames tonight at Pengrowth Saddledome.
The Ducks head up north after Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Oilers, Anaheim's 11th straight win at home. The club has been much different away from the Honda Center, losing 10 of its last 15 on the road, all in regulation.
Bobby Ryan scored twice versus Edmonton, giving him a team-high 27 goals, while Todd Marchant had the game-winner in the third period. Jonas Hiller made 37 saves, including 17 in the first period.
The Ducks, who have won five of their last six overall, moved within two points of the eighth-seeded Flames in the West despite playing without Ryan Getzlaf, who missed the game due to a sprained left ankle. Getzlaf has a team- best 42 assists on the year and hopes to return either tonight or tomorrow in Edmonton before the Olympic break.
"[The ankle] felt a lot better than [Thursday], Getzlaf told Anaheim's Web site on Friday. "I'm definitely at the point where I want to be in the lineup for at least one of these two games. [Thursday], a lot was pretty painful. [Friday], I was able to get through a lot of stuff."
Anaheim has won its last four games versus the Flames, including a pair of meetings at the Honda Center this year. However, the Ducks have won just twice in their last 10 at Calgary.
They'll be facing a Flames team tonight though that has lost eight of its last 10 at home. Calgary opened a four-game homestand on Thursday with a 3-1 setback to Dallas as the last two games of this residency will take place after the Olympic break.
Calgary's lone goal versus Dallas was actually scored by a Stars skater. Jarome Iginla lost control of the puck on the power play and Dallas' Brenden Morrow attempted to clear the puck, but accidentally fired it into his own net.
Iginla was credited with his 25th goal of the season and nearly had his 26th in the third period that would have tied the game. He let go a shot that deflected off Stars goaltender Marty Turco and sat on the goal line. It was ruled a goal with 30 ticks left, but was then waived off after a video review.
Moments later, the Stars scored on an empty net to ice the game.
Miikka Kiprusoff made 20 saves for Calgary, which has lost three straight and is just 4-11-4 over its last 19 games.
"Every game is such a big game for us, there is no margin for error," said Flames head coach Brent Sutter. "Tonight I thought the game was right there for us again and we didn't take advantage of it."

The most popular sports to bet on are NFL and college football along with NBA and NCAA basketball. There are multiple betting opportunities within those sports, beginning with the basic wager on a game’s outcome (also called betting the side). College Football Point spreads are used in both football and basketball in an attempt to even the attractiveness of each team in a match-up. ( See our article detailing how and why point spreads are made)
But you could also simply bet on the money line, or straight-up winner of the game. Oddsmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked on the favorite or expected winner and less money on the underdog to balance the action on both sides. While money line gambling is an attractive option for football and basketball bettors who only care about picking a winner, it is the primary option for those bettors who enjoy wagering on MLB baseball and individual sports like boxing, tennis, golf and racing events such as NASCAR. ( More details on playing the Money Line)
Another bet across all major team sports including football, basketball, baseball, and hockey involves wagering on the amount of scoring in a game, called an Over/Under total. For example, the Over/Under total on Super Bowl XXXIX was 48, which means a bettor could wager whether there would be more or less than 48 points scored by both teams combined in the game.
The final score of Super Bowl XXXIX was 24-21; the scoring of both teams added up to 45, which means the game went Under . So Under bettors won, and Over bettors lost.
Sports gambling doesn’t end there. Betting sides and totals are the most common wagers available everywhere, but many sportsbooks also offer future bets on big upcoming events like who will win next year’s Super Bowl and what movie will win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
The main advantage of futures is that you can get appealing odds by betting far in advance. For example, with NFL futures you often can get much higher odds on a team by betting before the season even starts. A NFL future bet on a team to win the Super Bowl odds might be 20/1 in the preseason; but by midseason, their odds might decrease to 10/1 if they turn out to be legitimate championship contenders.
Involves one individual wager, whether it be on your team to cover the point spread, to win the game straight-up on the money line, or to go over/under the total.
